"Expect to see this young company and its members enriching the theater scene for some time to come." Gothamist, August 17, 2005
About
Mission Statement
Performance Lab 115 is a collective of artists dedicated to the revolution of the Ensemble. Letting go of hierarchies and erasing borders between actor, director, designer, dramaturg, philosopher, we approach the necessity of theatre as a communal human experience in an increasingly corporate world. Our process is collaborative, iterative, and intended to foster a community of likeminded artists. We create events that are visceral as well as intellectual: less talk, more action/improvisation/collage/composition. We see theatre as a tool for social change and endeavor to bring the extra-daily, imaginative life to the forefront, an injection of hope into our national infrastructure.
Straight from the loins of Andrei Serban, Kristin Linklater, Anne Bogart, and Romanian masters Niky and Ulla Wolcz, PL115 is out of the gates and fighting.
Our Process
The Lab
Training is at the core of our mission. The company believes that training is integral to our growth as an individual performers as well as to integrity of the company. We train in a variety of forms including; viewpoints, Suzuki, biomechanics, clown, Linklater voice, and commedia. In addition to training the lab is dedicated to composition as the inspiration for making work. We believe in an extended rehearsal process that incorporates improvisation, research, found material, and actor generated composition to help extend the world of any given project.
The Performance
Our belief in an iterative process makes performance and feedback essential to our work. In addition to workshop showings within the rehearsal process, we see performance as an opportunity for continued growth rather than an end point. We believe in the importance of reaching a wide range of audiences. We are dedicated to a theatre of exchange and touring our work both locally and internationally.
